It looks like Santa Monica has narrowed down when we can expect it’s next God of War spin-off, starring Kratos’ wife exploring the afterlife of the gods with a sentient jelly cube, to launch.
While confirming that God of War: Laufey will be appearing at ballroom 20 at San Diego Comic-Con, the studio also confirmed something else: the game will be available on disc.
You’ve probably already figured this out, but that also means the game has to launch before January 2028, because that’s the date Sony has said it will stop producing physical discs. A decision that has gone down….er, very well. Not a problem. No backlash at all. *cough*
Sony Isn’t Killing Discs Because Nobody Buys Them — It’s Killing Them Because People Still Do
Sony is ditching physical PlayStation discs by January 2028, sparking outrage online. Despite rising digital sales, many still prefer physical copies, raising questions about the company’s motives.
Jason Schreier – journalist, knower of things and bloke who writes stuff down – previously dropped this nugget of information: “I mean, I mentioned God of War: Laufey – I wouldn’t be surprised if that gets announced for February or March pretty soon.”
That makes a lot of sense given how much the team showed at the PlayStation State of Play. Clearly, the game is fairly far along in its development.
Speaking of being fairly far along, did you know that Laufey’s lead actress says the game is almost a decade in the making? Well, now you do.
Right. You can go back to yelling at Sony now. Have fun.
