Looks like the waaaaaagh is on hold boys, because Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 4 has been officially delayed until December 3. Anyone who buys the Commander Edition will get to start playing on November 30.

The game was originally scheduled to launch next month on September 17, which would have meant dropping into a very hectic month. September is currently packed full of big-hitters looking to avoid Grand Theft Auto’s big day.

“As we approached the final stages of development, we saw an opportunity to further enhance Dawn of War IV and deliver the quality of experience we’ve always envisioned. The additional time will allow us to continue optimising performance, resolving bugs, and applying further polish to ensure players have the best possible experience from day one” said Jan Theysen, Creative Director at KING Art Games.

It’s probably a smart move – it gets them out of an already insane month, and lets them polish the game. I did notice some rough edges in the gameplay videos, so this is a win-win. Well, except for the obvious fact that we don’t get to play it next month, anymore.

The roadmap of content across year 1 has also bee updated slightly. free updates to all players will include a returning Crusade mode, new maps, new modes, new Commanders and a mission editor.

There will also be two expansions which you’ll have to access. The first is a Blood Ravens prologue to the main story, while the second is titled Aftermath and introduces a new faction.

The studio is promising that “players can expect more Battlefield Reports, gameplay showcases, and developer deep dives over the coming months as the studio shares more of what’s to come.”

I’m personally very excited for this one. The OG Dawn of War is one of my all-time favourite games, but the series never hit the same high-point. The second game was fun in its own right but wasn’t an RTS, while the third game has its moment but doesn’t hold a candle to the original game.

King Art seem to be aiming to build something closer to the first game, and their work on Iron Harvest was very promising.
