Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition will launch for PC in early 2027, Relic Entertainment has announced, pushing the remaster out of its previously planned autumn 2026 release out the window.

The new window arrived in a press release alongside a new Legacy trailer celebrating the original Company of Heroes’ 20th anniversary. Relic doesn’t actually describe it as a delay, but the Definitive Edition was announced in June with an autumn 2026 launch window. Early 2027 is therefore a few months later than originally planned. Nice try, Relic. I’m only slightly stupid, not completely.

No specific release date has been announced yet, and the game’s Steam page still lists its arrival simply as “To be announced.” It seems weird that the second World War doesn’t have a release date, right?

When it does eventually arrive, Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition will cost £23.99 in the UK, $29.99 in the US and €28.99 in Europe. Existing owners of Company of Heroes on Steam will receive a 30% discount, bringing the UK price down to roughly £16.79.

Developed by Relic Entertainment in partnership with Blackbird Interactive, the package includes the original Company of Heroes and both of its expansions, Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor. That amounts to three full campaigns, three additional single-player stories, four factions and more than 50 skirmish and multiplayer maps.

This isn’t a complete remake, but the 2006 strategy classic is being moved onto a fully upgraded 64-bit platform with improved lighting, shadows, water, reflections, textures and draw distances. Relic is also modernising the interface and controls, adding grid keys and custom hotkeys, while properly supporting widescreen and ultrawide displays.

Gameplay changes include vehicle reversing, automatic reinforcement at headquarters and improved enemy AI, complete with a new Ruthless difficulty setting for players who found the original insufficiently cruel. Most importantly for the long-running community, Relic says the Definitive Edition will remain compatible with the game’s 20 years of user-created mods.

It’s not the biggest delay in the world, but it does mean Company of Heroes will no longer be returning during its actual 20th anniversary year. Presumably the Wehrmacht got bogged down somewhere in Steam certification. Regardless, I’m looking forward to playing it, although the original Company of Heroes has aged pretty damn well.

Meanwhile, Company of Heroes 3 just got a standalone wave-based mode which was….fine.
