BlizzCon is underway, and Blizzard has dropped a double whammy of news: Diablo V is coming in 2029, and now there’s a new StarCraft game launching in 2030.

Yup, after complaining that Blizzard announced Diablo 5 two and a half years before it was due to come out, I was baffled to read StarCraft won’t be coming until 2030. Could we stop announcing stuff years in advance, please? This is getting nuts.

Anyway, the new game, currently just titled StarCraft (although the trailer carries the subtitle Dominion) is being called an open-world shooter from former Far Cry boss Dan Hay, essentially confirming the prior rumours of a StarCraft shooter.

Here’s part of what Hay had to say on stage, according to Tweaktown: “A team built with one purpose, with one goal, to return to a universe forged in interstellar war. This is something new, an open-world shooter where every step is earned, not from above, but down in the mud, in the fire, honoring the past, its tone, its truth, but with an opportunity to push beyond it.

“We are here standing shoulder to shoulder with you, we are here to reignite this universe alongside each and every one of you. We here to make StarCraft”

The trailer is cool, but tells us nothing about the game. So like Diablo V, we’re in a situation where StarCraft is less of a game and more of a vague promise for the distant future. And again, indicates to me that Xbox just wants to build some buzz, so they are willing to announce things long before they should.
