Back in February, a mysterious “wallet credit” app was discovered on PlayStation, which many people assumed might be the beginnings of a new reward scheme to replace PlayStation Stars. And now, it seems to be live.
The first example I spotted was by Reddit user JannJans who posted to say they spotted a “Wallet credit” offer when checking out The Blood of Dawnwalker. Apparently once they added the game to the basket and went to pay, it was confirmed they would get $10 of PlayStation credit. JannJans bought the game, and the credit was put straight into their wallet.
Other people across Reddit and social media are reporting the same thing. One UK resident said they also got £10 back when buying The Blood of Dawnwalker last week. Other people have chimed in on comments to say they’ve seen the offeri appearing on other titles, too, like Star Wars: Zero Company, Onimusha: Way of the Sword and even Wolverine.
However, another user says they were shown a banner for it on the PlayStation store. Combined with the fact that the credit offers seem to have end dates, this could be a limited time promotional event rather than a new reward scheme. And it also seems to be another example of targeted advertising, because only select people are seeing it. I’ve confirmed that I don’t seem to be seeing the offers.
Personally, I’m leaning toward this being a promotional event rather than a new reward scheme.
