UPDATE, September 30: Xbox has now officially unveiled the new Mythic Achievements, awarded to players for unlocking every other Achievement in a game. In other words, it’s a PlayStation Platinum Trophy.
The new system is available today to Xbox Insiders, and will be applied retroactively to games as well, including Xbox 360 titles. If you’ve been playing for years, there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself with a solid starting collection of Mythics.
Your profile page will now include a Gaming Tab where “you can see your achievements, track your next Gamerscore milestone badge, and revisit the games you’ve completed. Mythic Achievements stand out in your achievement history with a heroic frame, making it easy to see how many you’ve already earned.”
There’ll also be a progress bar at the top of each game’s achievement list showing you how close you are to getting the Mythic, and you can filter a game’s achievements to only show the base Achievements, since you don’t need to complete DLC or any Achievements added later to get the Mythic.
There’s now word on when the update will roll out for everyone else.
ORIGINAL STORY: Last week, the long-rumoured Xbox version of the PlayStation Platinum Trophy , which Asha Sharma herself all but confirmed, popped up. It was spotted by X user Muse who noticed it in the available filters, and now more details have emerged about the Mythic Achievement.
TrueAchievements have the details, saying that a source has told them the new Mythic Achievement will roll out “soon.”
According to what TrueAchievements has been told, the Mythic Achievement is essentially the same as the PlayStation Platinum Trophy. Basically, a Mythic Achievement will be rewarded for completing all the other core Achievements in a game – no Achievements added via DLC or updates will count.
They also aren’t worth any GameScore.
Meanwhile, X user Krobrille claims to have found the new icon, animation an sound effect for the Achievement on the Xbox Game Pass PC app. It’s rather….dramatic, complete with its own soaring musical sting. Of course, this could be fake.
Jumping back to True Achievements, they claim that a players Mythic Achievement will be proudly displayed on their profile and will exist alongside the 100% completion highlight that was added a few months ago.
In fact, the entire gaming tab is getting an overhaul to highlight total GamerScore, Achievement total, your Mythic Achievements and more.
And once you earn a game’s Mythic Achievement, that game’s art in the Gaming tab will be decked out with a green star, laurel, and a green border.
Best of all, Mythic Achievements will be retroactively applied to all games, so once the update goes live you might find yourself with a nice collection.
