The Mafia games are continuing their slightly crazy comeback with another current-gen upgrade, this time bringing Lincoln Clay to 60 fps.
The update is free for anyone who already owns Mafia 3: Definitive Edition or the recently released Omerta Collection. And if you don’t already own the game, it’s currently on sale for a measly £5.
This shiny new upgrade to what is typically considered the weakest of the Mafia games (although it’s still pretty damn fun, actually) has a number of improvements, starting with 60FPS support. This includes the real-time cinematics, although the rendered movie sequences are stuck at 30fps since it is far harder to change those.
There doesn’t seem to be any mention of a resolution upgrade, but 2K does mention improvements to lighting, texture rendering, and vegetation streaming, including reduced pop-in.
Apparently, they’ve also gone and fixed some of the busted checkpoints, objectives and cutscenes that could stop people from progressing.
And speaking of fixes, they’ve finally fixed the Trophy/Achievement counter issues that made getting the full set such a pain in the fucking ass. I’m actually considering a Platinum run for this very reason. The bad news is saves from the last-gen version will not carry over.
I’ve put the full, lengthy list of fixes and improvements at the bottom of the post, copied directly from the official Mafia 2K page.
Finally, it looks like there’s also a similar update for Mafia 2 coming. The very same ratings board leak that ousted the Mafia 3 update before it was announced also leaked a Mafia 2 current-gen update, so keep your eye out for that.
