After launching Days Gone in 2019, Bend Studios has been rather quiet. Days Gone 2 was not greenlit by Sony despite the first game being profitable. The team moved on to working with Naughty Dog for a while, before outlining a new IP in 2022 that was reported to include multiplayer and would build on Days Gone’s open-world system. However, in January 2025, Bloomberg reported that Bend’s game had been cancelled, with Sony then officially making the announcement. If that wasn’t enough, Bend then got hit with layffs in June of 2025.
So it’s nice to see that Bend Studio is actually working in a new game, and it might be out sooner than we thought. That’s according to Alex Co of MP1ST who has penned a new report based on “people aware of what’s happening at Bend but who wish to remain anonymous.”
Firstly, MP1ST establishes that this new game is not the cancelled live-service game from 2025, apparently code-named Mirror Pond.
This new game is not a live-service project, nor is it Days Gone 2, sadly. But it is apparently a third-person game with co-op. Most importantly, the game is planned for a 2027 reveal, and a 2027 release.
That lines up with what Jason Schreier said back in August. According to the Bloomberg journalist, Bend moved on to another project after the cancellation of Mirror Pond, saying: “I think we’ll see that in the next year or two. Hopefully it doesn’t get cancelled.”
It’s not clear if this was just an educated guess, or based on some insider information.
Personally, I’m still miffed we aren’t getting Days Gone 2. I’m pretty fond of the original, and think Bend Studios could have done a lot with a sequel. But I’m more than happy that the team is still alive and getting an opportunity to launch a new game.
