Today saw the launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, a massive overhaul of the core game that was also made available for free to anyone who already owns the game, which is pretty much everyone given that it has sold over 65 million copies. The new version is so popular that The Witcher 3 has broken its own concurent player record.
SteamDB says The Witcher 3, now fully rebranded as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered managed to heat a peak concurrent player count of 120,975 a few hours ago as I write this. That’s the most people playing at the same time on PC that the game has ever experienced.
The previous record was just over 103,000 when season 1 of The Witcher launched on Netflix. You know, back when Henry Cavill was playing Geralt and the future seemed bright. Not bad for a game that’s a decade old. Which is fucking nuts. A decade? Why is time going so fast?
Anyway, the list of changes made in the new Remastered edition is significant, and it also comes packing both of the DLCs – Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine. Perfect for when CD Projket Red and Fool’s Theory drop a brand new chunk of content called Songs of the Past next year, which is going to act as bridge between The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4.
