We live in a time when just about anything can get remastered. Case in point: Shrek 2. The 2004 licensed movie tie-in title has leaked via the Xbox Store itself, all but officially confirming its existence.
We first got wind of the remaster back in September during that massive Steam leak. Now, though, the game briefly appeared on the Xbox Store before being taken down. This being the Internet, though, all the details were quickly scooped up.
Aspyr is handling development and will be bringing back the 2004 title with improved graphics that will include 4k resolution, updated cutscenes and an enhanced UI.
Framerate was not mentioned, although there’s a good chance it will support 60fps. That said, there has been mention of some issues that pop up when the framerate is unlocked, like Fiona’s time-stop ability lasting for less time. That means Aspyr would have to do a little extra work to make sure everything runs properly.

The game’s fun 4-player co-op is being expanded with online support, and the ability to mix local and online players.
There’s also going to be a photo mode, and mentions of a cheat mode as well.
Shrek 2 launched at a time when movie tie-in games tended to be pretty shitty, but it was surprisingly good. It retells the story of the movie (which is one of my favourite animated flicks) with gusto, and has some fun character-swapping action. With that said, I’d hardly say it was anything amazing, which makes the remaster a bit surprising. Then again, remasters are pretty easy to churn out these days, and companies do love them some money.
Shrek also briefly appeared in IGN’s teaser for the upcoming ID@Xbox Showcase, which it is presenting with Xbox. He is still clearly visible in the teaser, so I guess we can expect an official announcement at the event on October 20.
Currently, Xbox and PC are the only platforms we know about.
