Arkane Lyon is in danger of having its doors closed, but there’s hope: the studio might still survive and go on to launch Marvel’s Blade, based on a new report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.

The company has been undergoing a process to find a buyer or other means of saving it before being shut down as part of Xbox’s big reset. According to what sources have told Schreier, Microsoft has been approached by several buyers who are interested in acquiring Arkane Lyon, including Ubisoft. In fact, Ubisoft has reportedly submitted a bid.

Ubisoft is intriguing, because that’s a company which is currently going through its own massive restructuring program, including layoffs and studio closures.

However, the same report claims Microsoft is not yet satisfied with any of the proposals it has gotten. But there may still be hope, because it is also claimed that Microsoft has been considering allowing Arkane Lyon to be bought by its own management, much like what happened with Double Fine and Compulsion Games. That would give them a chance to live on, and release Marvel’s Blade which was officially announced in 2023.

The rest of Arkane Lyon’s IP is up in the air. Microsoft allowed Compulsion Games, Undead Labs and Double FIne to retain their IP, so presumably Arkane Lyon would be allowed to keep their IP upon going independent which includes the likes of Dishonored and Deathloop. And I assume the IP would also be included in a sale to a company like Ubisoft, too.

Perhaps the biggest question is who has been bidding on Arkane Lyon outside of Ubisoft? Any guesses?
