Mina the Hollower has been a long time coming, having been announced way back in February of 2022. It was revealed during a livestream, and the subsequent Kickstarter raised $1.2m to help develop the game.

Despite how much money the team brought in from Shovel Knight, they’re now in trouble, publicly stating that if Mina the Hollower doesn’t sell well, Yacht Club could shut down. Speaking to Bloomberg last year, Yacht Club Games’ co-founder and studio head Sean Velasco said, “It’s make-or-break for sure,”

“If we sold 500,000 copies, then we would be golden. If we sold even 200,000, that would be really, really great. If we sold, like, 100,000, that’s not so good.”

It seems the team’s attempts to spin off Shovel Knight have not fared well, and delays to Mina the Hollower have led to a lengthy development cycle that has eaten up the company’s money.

The good news is that Mina the Hollowe looks pretty awesome, so hopefully it will sell well.
