Xbox has launched a new feedback portal titled Xbox Player Voice (they’ve also rebranded Xbox to XBOX but I can’t be bothered shouting all the time) that is aimed at letting people voice their opinions and hopefully have them heard. Unsurprisingly, bringing back exclusives is leading the charge.
Simply titled “Exclusives”, the thread currently has 8,300+ upvotes and around 1,200 comments, and is asking for what you would expect: start making Xbox (and PC) exclusives again in order to entice people to buy an Xbox.
Since this is the internet, the arguments range from well thought out and intelligent, to “fuck PlayStation, they don’t deserve our games.” There’s also people arguing against it, instead supporting Xbox’s current multiplatform approach.
Regardless, it shows a pretty strong desire for exclusives to become a real thing again. And it isn’t completely off the table – new Xbox boss Asha Sharma is apparently reevaluating exclusives. But removing games from other consoles would be a major financial hit to a brand that is already struggling. Some of their releases, such as the recent Gears of War remaster, haven’t done very well on PlayStation, but others, like Forza Horizon 5, have brought in a lot of cash.
Personally, I believe Xbox might keep the multiplatform approach, but have at least a few months gap between their games releasing on Xbox/ PC and coming to other consoles, much like they are doing right now with Forza Horizon 6.
The second highest thread currently is calling for more backwards compatibility support. Xbox did heavily support this once upon a time, but quietly wound down active support, leaving plenty of games unplayable.
The third highest suggestion is to make multiplayer completely free. Right now, you need at least the least tier subscription to jump into online matches, although free-to-play games are exempt from this.
What do you guys think?
