Rejoice, friends, because everyone’s favourite Nazi-killing maniac B.J. Blazkowicz is probably coming back in a third Wolfenstein game designed to launch alongside the reported TV show.
Windows Central’s Jez Corden has published a new report discussing leadership changes at MachineGames and Arkane. We’ll discuss those details toward the end of the article, as the details are a bit murkier. But the most interesting bit is this: “Microsoft is investing in MachineGames following the success of Indiana Jones, but also on the basis of the popularity of the Wolfenstein franchise.”
Jez goes on to say that “Wolfenstein 3 is in production” according to his sources, with “the goal of the TV show and game complimenting each other Fallout TV-style.”
The important bit here is that this is not coming out of nowhere. MachineGames has already said it viewed its modern Wolfenstein saga as a trilogy and still had a story to tell, while earlier this year both Windows Central and Kotaku reported that Wolfenstein 3 was likely happening. The new wrinkle is that Jez Corden is now saying the game is actually in production, apparently as part of a broader plan to pair it with Amazon’s rumoured Wolfenstein TV show.
Jez’s mentions of Wolfenstein 3 were part of a bigger report on a change of leadership at Arkane. X user Timur222 spotted a filing for a change of leadership at Arkane which went into effect on June 30. MachineGames co-founder and studio director Jerk Gustafsson took over as President of Arkane, replacing Leonard Bendel.
However, the story gets messier because journalist Jason Schreier jumped in to offer some corrections, saying “Gustafsson actually became studio director of Arkane in July 2025”.
Speaking on Reddit’s Gaming Leaks and Rumours page, Schreier offered up more details:” Yes, today’s reporting is about some administrative changes that happened a few months ago and went into effect today.”
“It is a fact that Jerk Gustafsson has been managing Arkane (I believe his official title was “European Studios Director”) since last summer.”
Windows Central then updated their story with the correction and claims to have corroborated this fact with their own sources.
Arkane has been mentioned several times as one of the studios potentially at risk of being closed as part of Xbox’s big reset, which is expected to begin on Monday. Multiple studios are said to be facing closure, and the layoffs are likely to be horrible in scale.
Some have suggested that Arkane’s leadership change might point to a merger between MachineGames and Arkane. That’s completely unclear right now. All we can hope is that Jez Corden’s report means MachineGames is relatively safe. Arkane’s fate is harder to reach, but we will probably find out in just a few days.
