Ubisoft have officially revealed that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag does indeed exist. However, other than the box art nothing about the game will be revealed until 5pm on Monday, when the embargo on the Assassin’s Creed media event that occurred yesterday lifts.
Having said that the box art seems to confirm yesterday’s rumours that the game will feature Edward Kenway as the lead character and will take place in the Caribbean, making use of those fantastic naval gameplay mechanics from Assassin’s Creed III.
Also worthy of note is that the PS3 box bares a sticker promising an exclusive 60-minutes of gameplay.
Even though I’m not a supporter of Assassin’s Creed being a yearly franchise, I can’t help but get excited at the prospect of a pirate/naval themed game set in the Caribbean. There’s just so much potential there for awesome gameplay, and just how amazing the Caribbean would look brought to life using the AnvilNext engine?
Now all they’ve got to do is include a scene in which the lead character happily brandishes a jar of dirt. That scene along would make everything worthwhile.
