Weekend Whammy

Weekend Whammy: Descenders & Sonic Team Racing Reviews

I’ve been a little quiet this week and for that I apologise, friends. Some things came up that I needed to handle, and then when I sat down to write it just ended up being more gibberish than normal, which is really saying something.

Anyway, I’m moving Patch Notes to a bi-weekly format with potentially an extra Patch Notes here or there if there’s a lot of news to cover. Of course, I still haven’t posted a Patch Notes in ages, so I’ll remedy that this week!

I’m also considering doing a bi-weekly Movie Night post that just chats about a specific film, if that sounds interesting to you guys. I might start with Halloween (2018) or perhaps a look back at the Avengers or even the recent 4k release of Hellboy 2. From there I might mix stuff like my adoration of Baby Driver in, as well as talk about weirder stuff like Iron Sky: The Coming Race.

Anyway, on to the usual stuff. The only thing I put out this week was a lengthy ramble about the final episode of Game of Thrones. There was a lot to unpack, and to be honest I think I’m still just trying to grasp the idea that there’s no more Game of Thrones, at least not in its current form.

Perhaps the most important thing I can say about the final episode of Game of Thrones is that when I dropped by the local pub this weekend there were still people talking about it. So few shows could ever claim to have had the impact that Game of Thrones had. So few shows ever had people arguing back and forth with such passion. Whatever you think of the finale, there’s no denying that Game of Thrones was a pop-culture phenomenon.

Anyway, in terms of forthcoming reviews I’m nearly finished my inane ramblings about Descenders. If you aren’t aware Descenders just came out of Early Access and is an arcade style mountain biking game with just a dash of rogue-lite in the form of randomly generated levels. As I say the review will be going up soon, but my opinion is that it’s absolutely worth buying if the idea of flying down a hill on a virtual mountain bike sounds fun to you.

Another review that I’ll be doing is for Team Sonic Racing. Early impressions have been good for this kart racer, though I’d have to say that it’s not as good as Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing Transformed. Keep a look out for my full review coming soon.

If you’re looking for something interesting to read on the net this week might I recommend a piece by Morgan Park over at Kotaku. His engrossing article talks about his time in a Day of Defeat clam led by SeaDog. I almost feel like talking about it could be deemed a spoiler, but the general gist is the demise of a clan, a paranoid and strange leader, defection and just the way clans in general can become strange places indeed.

Right, that’s all for now folks! As always thanks for reading and please, please do consider leaving a comment below telling me what you’ve been playing, watching or reading this week!
