According to website How Long To Beat, the original Control takes around 11.5-12 hours to complete, with around 29-hours required if you want to do absolutely everything. Well, the sequel is bigger. By a lot, if the developer is to be believed.

Speaking to Tech Radar in a great interview that reveals a lot of new gameplay details, lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov said that the “core experience” will clock in at around 30 hours, while completionists can expect closer to 50 hours.

On the one hand, that’s great news if you’re looking for a more substantial experience, although I personally don’t tend to equate longer to better – I’d even argue a good 10-15 hours is the sweet spot for campaigns a lot of the time.

On the other hand, it means Control: Resonant is going to need some commitment in a month that is so packed with games it’s in danger of collapsing into a black hole of entertainment. It’s got to compete with the likes of Insomniac’s Wolverine game, a new Onimusha, Silent Hill: Townfall, The Blood of Dawn Walker and more.

Stiff competition indeed. Still, the game looks absolutely terrific, building on the already sublime Control with vastly improved combat, trippy visuals and hopefully a great story. I can’t wait to check it out when it launches on September 24.

Unless you decide to splash out to get the 48-hour early access, which is exclusive to PlayStation in a completely baffling move.
