Xbox has decided to team up with Nintendo in a rather unusual way – opting not to share its digital game sales data with Circana.

That’s according to Mat Piscattella of Circana, the man who shares out lots of lovely numbers for us to ponder off, discuss, chew on and occasionally get irrationally angry at.

Microsoft is no longer a digital panel participating publisher.

Look, it’s only us crazy enthusiasts who really care about tracking stuff like game sales, so this is not world-shattering news for the majority. But for people like me who do enjoy the behind-the-scenes industry nonsense, this is a bummer,

This isn’t the first time Xbox has done something like this, either. They previously stopped sharing sales numbers for their consoles when they went into decline.

Mind you, this is a little different. While Xbox is struggling and some of their games don’t seem to be selling well, other stuff like Call of Duty continues to shift copies like a bakery selling cocaine-laced cupcakes.

Unfortunately, Microsoft and Xbox have not provided a reason for their decision, but it’s absolutely their right to refuse to share the data.

And like I hinted at in the beginning, Nintendo also doesn’t share its digital game data, either, often leaving us to ponder just how well its games are doing.
