It looks like Sony’s new plan is to resurrect many of its older IP by opening the doors to third-party studios, according to someone who has some proven sources.
The leaker in question isn’t a name you probably know: thiserfan on ResetEra. However, last year the same user leaked the existence of a 2D God of War game, which would end up being God of War: Sons of Sparta. In fact, they posted very specific details, including Kratos and Deimos being playable characters. They also knew who was developed, discussed a delay to to moving to a voice cast and much more.

Thiserfan is now claiming that, “Based on what I’ve heard/gathered, SIE recently opened its doors to licensing agreements and are accepting multiple game pitches. That’s why there are many rumours all of a sudden.’
According to thisiserfan, the games specifically mentioned were Sly Cooper, Ape Escape and Killzone.
Now, this ties in neatly with a few other things that have been floating around. Just the other day, for example, NateTheHate said he had heard Sony was bringing back Ape Escape, adding to the previous claim he had made which was that there was a plan to bring back multiple dormant franchises.
Just a month ago in September, it was also claimed that Killzone was either being remade or remastered, with Guerilla working on the project with help from a team outside of PlayStation. There’s a strong possibility that the team involved might be People Can Fly, who Sony has publically signed a deal with to develop a game based on a PlayStation IP.
Back in May of this year, Jordan Middler spoke on the VGC podcast about being under the impression that Infamous was being revived somewhere within Sony, but not with Sucker Punch helming the project. Now, he did specificy that it was “happening somewhere else in PlayStation”, but it would line up neatly with the idea of dormant IP being licensed by 3rd party developers.
Now, there is an obvious caveat to all this: outside of the incredibly detailed God of War: Sons of Sparta leaks, thisiserfan does not have any other leaks to his or her name. In some ways, that may be even better: this is a person who might only make claims when they genuinely have strong information, rather than just flinging shit at a wall. It might be a case that they have just one or two very specific contacts within PlayStation.
But the claim lines up very well with other things floating around the Internet, and at this bloody point I’ll take any vague hope that Sly Cooper is coming back.
