As inevitable as the rising sun, another Call of Duty game has been announced. This one is led by Infinity Ward, which last launched a Call of Duty title in 2022.
This year’s entry in the long-running shooter franchise will launch on October 23. It’ll be out on PS5, Xbox Series, PC, and Switch 2. The platforms are notable for two reasons: this CoD is for current-gen only, and it’s the first time we’ve had Call of Duty on a Nintendo console since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts.
If you’re planning on playing via Game Pass…well, you can’t, remember? As per the announcement a few weeks ago, new Call of Duty’s are no longer included as a day-one drop. Instead, you’ll have to wait until “the following holiday season” before they get added.
“War erupts on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion that threatens to destabilize the world in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4,” reads the official blurb. “A young squad of South Korean soldiers fight to survive on the collapsing front lines, while half a world away a vengeful Captain Price wages a personal war from the shadows as he stays one step ahead of those hunting him. As Price’s off-book mission collides with the forces behind the invasion, the war spreads beyond anyone’s control.”
It all sounds very exciting. We will apparently get to experience”trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, high-octane chases through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and city-wide assaults to reclaim occupied territory.” Sound slike a decent night out, really.
The trailer ends with a tease for the DMZ mode, which is basically Call of Duty’s version of an extraction mode. Expect a full debut for that on June 7, which is exactly the same day as the Xbox showcase.
