Best of Xbox Game Pass – DOOM 2016

It’d be easy to recommend jumping into DOOM Eternal, the 2020 sequel to the 2016 reboot that amps up the action to even more insane levels and complicates the gameplay mechanics. Arguably, it’s the better game, and yet I can’t help but think there’s something a little more pure about DOOM 2016. And anyway, they’re both on Game Pass so why not start at the beginning?

Best of Xbox Game Pass – Dishonored

With Microsoft now owning Zenimax, and therefore Bethesda, it seemed only right to pick out a Bethesda title from Game Pass to highlight this week. The game I chose is a personal favourite and comes from the excellent minds at Arkane whose talent for designing awesome levels has made them a developer I love and adore. Yep, my choice for this week is Dishonored, the first-person stealth ‘n stab adventure where ever playthrough starts with me promising to avoid killing before inevitably turning into the kind of blood bath that would make Sub-Zero go for a bit of a lie-down.

Weekend Whammy: Insomniac Recast Spider-Man, But Why?

Today, my fellow squishy beings, is my birthday. Therefore I will be requiring you all to worship my divine brilliance for at least five minutes before you read the rest of this week’s Weekend Whammy. Start worshipping. Done? Alright, we can get on with this, then. Joking aside, as always I hope you’re all keeping well, staying safe and getting to play loads of games. On this Weekend Whammy I’m going to tackling Insomniac’s announcement that they’ve recast Spider-Man. I’ll also be talking about what I’m playing and planning on review. So let’s do this!

Patch Notes: Game Journalists Being Stupid & E3 2019

Years ago I used to get excited about E3 and the myriad of game announcements that would flood from out of it. But these days it’s a little harder to get excited about the event for a variety of reasons. The strange way in which its ran has resulted in a lot of companies holding their own conferences and events outside of E3. Over the years its become more and more commercial with more and more stilted speeches.

Weekend Whammy: What Are You Playing This Weekend?

The weekend has snuck up like some sort of professional hitman and executed a perfect stealth take down on my sorry excuse for a body. Still, weekends mean its time to pack in a whole lot of gaming, movies, books and other entertainment. Let’s do it!

I’m going to keep this one relatively brief as my new nephew (he’s four months old) has come to visit this weekend. For the most part I’ve been putting in the time with Darksiders 3, a game I’ve been eagerly awaiting and was genuinely afraid we’d never see given the IP was in limbo for a long time. It hasn’t blown me away so far and I do sort of miss the loot system from Darksiders 2, but it has been a pretty solid action romp with awesome art design.
